X-linked retinoschisis is one of the most common form on juvenile-onset retinal dystrophies affecting male adolescents. It is caused by pathogenic mutations in the RS1 gene, causing foveal schisis and slow visual deterioration. Retinal detachment and vitreous haemorrhage are known complications.

X-linked retinoschisis is an inherited retinal condition cause by mutations in the RS1 gene. It primary affects the macula but some patients can also be affected by retinal detachments or vitreous haemorrhage (bleeding into the clear jelly at the back of the eye).
